About Beth Osment Textiles

Hi! I'm Beth of Beth Osment Textiles. I live in the South West of England, working from my home studio in Exeter to produce unique handmade textiles to nurture & adorn you & your home.

My background is in Landscape Architecture, but I have been primarily bringing up our 2 girls for the last decade or so. My particular interest in the world of landscape architecture is restorative landscape, the creation of spaces incorporated into everyday life to provide accessible nature designed to promote a feeling of calm & well-being, supporting our mental & emotional health.  I like environments that have the kind of interest nature provides but are also calming & nurturing. I take inspiration for my textiles from nature, seasons, gardens & landscapes. I produce textile pieces using natural materials, simple patterns & colours to help to create a calm restorative environment. The simple colour palettes add interest to your home, whilst providing a restorative, restful and tactile experience which is calming for the mind.

I started to use textiles to create art at school in art A-level & have used applique, embroidery & patchwork techniques in the years since to make cushions, decorate blankets, duvets & lampshades for my children's bedrooms, and as gifts. My journey into quilting began with the desire to turn my girls baby clothes into functional quilts which we could use & keep, & would provide memories of this special time. This led to a journey into modern quilting, making one quilt after the other and learning techniques as I went. I love the idea of modern quilting to create pieces handmade with care which can be used, loved and passed on or gifted. The creation or gifting of a quilt can mark special occasions, hold memories, and add a cosy, homely feel enhancing family life.

I work with all natural materials and aim to make beautiful textiles that tread lightly by making the best use of the fabric, using offcuts & deadstock fabric as well as up-cycling fabric such as clothing. Sustainability is a journey and I am continually looking to make my sewing practice as sustainable as possible.

I became a member of Find a Maker by Craft Festival in April 2024.
